Just on the bushline in Fiordland, a land of intense rain, there are countless alpine bog associations, of which Key Summit, above the Milford Road, is the most accessible. In these places the eye has to radically refocus from the enchanting diminutive foreground detail to the massive block mountains on the skyline. Perhaps the only way a camera can capture this better than the naked eye is by bringing these close foregrounds simultaneously into perfect focus with distant objects. To me it creates a disquieting effect.
