In my latest work, I explore traditional Mexican cuisine, highlighting the iconic chili, a symbol of Mesoamerican gastronomy. Using symbolic representations of precious gems with silver and paradoxically combining these with inexpensive materials. What might be seen by others as just a cuisine element represents, for me, the flavour of home. Having these ingredients here feels like a luxury in itself. My playful and vibrant style challenges perceptions of value, beauty, and evokes the nostalgia of the flavours from my hometown.

Bebay González Millán, a Wellington based artist and professional designer, brings a unique blend of artistry and design to her work. With a background in Industrial Design, she works across various materials, media, and technology, drawing on her experience in exhibition design. Bebay’s work, showcased in Mexico and Aotearoa, reflects her Mexican heritage with bold colours and shapes inspired by a rich cultural background.
