Australia
Shark
I’ve only visited the small parts on the coastal edges of Australia and one collection of glowing rocks in the middle of that vast sparsely inhabited land, but the wombat is one of my favourite animals and Uluru (Ayers Rock) my favourite rock. Australia’s birds and other animals have fascinated me from a very early age but it is the way the great rock of Uluru and the Olgas glow red with the rising sun each day and every day that stays embedded in my mind. Uluru seems to heat up and glow from within and pulsate with energy before succumbing to the temper of the midday sun. Each and every day for millions of years.
We share the planet with an extraordinary and beautiful range of creatures that it always thrills me to meet in the wild. Our treatment of them is appalling and is my reason for being a vegetarian and sometime animal activist. I know that one day in the oncoming centuries we will find to understand their languages and it will enrich us deeply.
